Carbonclean’s innovative technology provides a cost-effective, flexible and high capacity energy storage system. Electricity is converted into high-temperature heat, and then stored in a ceramic material. At a later time, the heat is released from the ceramic and used to drive conventional steam and gas turbine cycles, efficiently regenerating the electricity.
Carbonclean’s patented methanol storage technology uses excess electrical energy to electrolyse to produce hydrogen which is then reacted with carbon dioxide to produce methanol. The methanol can later be combusted to regenerate the water and carbon dioxide in an emissions-free closed cycle process. This process not only provides a high cycle efficiency, but also allows for the production of methanol as a renewable fuel for transport.
